What is this about ?

Art-making
meets neuroscience,
mythology, and liberated expression.

Imagination, it turns out,
is a surprisingly honest window into our
subconscious shenanigans.

Intro

alessandra &the artidote

The Artidote is a space of creative practice & ritual — a place of colour, pattern, myth and bright-eyed noticing, where imagination and art-making track us back to all the things that live within us, yearning to be seen and understood.

A way to slip past the noise to hear our intuition.

Here, we are not terribly interested in producing masterpieces.
We are interested in what happens when you stop walking past things — the lichen on that wall, the peculiar slant of afternoon light, the shape your anxieties make when you actually give them a pencil.

We desire to partake in a world full of extraordinary detail.
And to do so, we must retreat from living in the domaine of our cluttered heads, and come back to our bodies where those pure creative juices flow.

Drawing on mythology, symbolism, visual journalling, expressive mark-making and psychological insight, The Artidote offers thoughtful, spirited ways to open yourself up — to your inner world, to the outer one, and to the joyful, slightly astonishing space where the two meet.

Alessandra is not your passive facilitator who nods thoughtfully while you spiral. She brings warmth, wit, and often the useful habit of noticing what other people overlook — the pattern in your choices, the image you keep returning to, the thing you said you didn’t care about while your pen drew it three times in a row.
She will ask the questions that will lead you to your own interpretations, working with the personal “myths” and stories that run in the background, helping you to see what goes on underneath it all.

who is this for?

Abstract painting of a woman with black hair holding her head, with blue, red, and pink colors and bold brushstrokes.

This is a space for curiosity, not performance.

For joy, not perfectionism.

For the magnificent, overlooked, bewildering
business of being fully alive.

This is for you, probably

The Artidote is for those who suspect there is more to see — in the world, in themselves — and who are willing to pick up a pencil and find out.

You might be a person who notices things: the face in the bark of a tree, the colour of someone’s laugh, the way your inner-critic is called Karen.
You might be someone in a season of change, or someone who has been carrying the same little knot of confusion for years and is ready, finally, to untangle it and make something else of it.

You may feel at home here if you:

— are drawn to creativity but do not consider yourself an artist (good, this is not that sort of place)

want to understand yourself without six months of talking about your mother

— are interested in mythology, symbolism and psychology — or simply curious about what they are?

— have a sense that the world contains more colour, pattern and wonder than you are currently noticing

would like help seeing it, and making something with what you find

“Art is not what you make.
It is how you learn to see.”

Creativity here is:

a language for what words cannot reach

— a tool for spotting the patterns that keep you stuck

— a practice for capturing the inner world before it wriggles away

— a way of introducing myth, symbolism and wonder
back into ordinary life

— frankly, just bloody fun
